Otoplasty | Ear Plastic Surgery – Avoiding the Revision Surgery by Seattle | Bellevue Dr. Philip Young: One of the key things in otoplasty surgery is you really want to get the best results the first time and not have to do a Revision Otoplasty. I see patients from all over the united states and I discussed revision otoplasty in a book that is coming out soon. One thing that I see commonly from patients that come to me basically from all over the world is over reduction and over pinning. The hardest part to overcome, surprisingly, is the lack of skin or the skin defect. On my revision otoplasty page I discuss how to overcome this with skin flaps from the local area, skin grafts from other areas to help with this element. This is the hardest to overcome in my opinion. Then you have to worry about the cartilage defect. Because ear cartilage is one of the areas that you can harvest cartilage, the lack of another source is a large issue. This is when I consider medpor for this element. Also you can consider rib cartilage or septal | nose cartilage as a replacement graft.
